LinkWell: A Wearable Sensor for Categorized Fall Detection

Here is a general review of the device of fall down sensor and user interfaces designs of an interactive Data Visualization Platform.

Video Intro

Here's the video introduction of a multi-functional wearable sensor with meticulous fall detection, showcasing how Linkwell connects senior with their caregivers and provides unobtrusive health monitoring and instructions.

Problem Statement

Many seniors don’t like to let others know their non-fatal falls, and ignore the consequences of these falls. The accumulation of minor falls could also risk elder people’s lives.

How might we create an experience that will help Senior regain the security and keep the voice down when elderly can get up on their own?

Reconnect Family members to Connect

A multi-functional wearable sensor with meticulous fall detection which categorize falls into two: emergency fall and minor fall, enabling specific alert and support towards different falls. Besides, LinkWell connects users directly with their caregivers when falls happen, and provides unobtrusive health monitoring and instructions for elderly people.

In-field Research

As an experience designer and problem solver, the design research process is very essential to my design. I apply multiple qualitative research methodologies to conduct user interviews and data collecting.

Data Collection

LinkWell has targeted on connecting senior directly with their caregiver when falls happen, and providing unobtrusive health monitoring and instructions for elderly people. We visited seniors, caregivers and community of the seniors. We also looked at some online solutions and analyzed the content people post.

Conceptualization

After collecting the data from in-field research, we analyzed and consolidated the findings through Sketching. LinkWell's mobile app site map was also developed.

Wireframing

The next step is the prototyping, user experience, workflows and user interfaces design of the mobile app. I started with sketching the general layouts and workflows of LinkWell mobile app mockups.

High-fidelity UI Design

High-fidelity user interface design and design specs specification are the final steps of the whole design cycle. They're also the most time consuming part.

CHI 2017 submission

We submited the LinkWell research paper and design to the CHI conference 2017. Here's LinkWell research paper report.
